Christmas Choir & Orchestra

CAROLS, Sunday 22 December, 10.30am & 7PM

We're planning to have choir and orchestra again this year for Carols on 22 December (10.30am & 7pm). All are welcome to join, or to come and have a go:

  • For singers, ability to read music or experience singing in a choir is helpful, but not necessarily essential
  • For players, do speak to Craig, even if you haven't played for some time!
if you'd like to be involved!

There will also be Carols on the Green featuring brass and singers on 15 December at 3.45pm, and orchestra and choir for Christmas Day.

Rehearsals

All rehearsals are either in the church (orchestra and full rehearsals) or the church centre (choir rehearsals will be upstairs in Amherst):
  • Carols on the Green (brass and singers) - Brass rehearsal tbc. Rehearsals for singers will be included in the Carols by Candlelight rehearsals.
  • Carols by Candlelight (orchestra and choir) - Rehearsals (all 7.30-9.30pm except 26 Nov) as follows:
    • Choir rehearsals - Fri 15 Nov, Tue 26 Nov (Sops and Altos 7.30-8pm, Full 8-9pm, Tenors and Basses 9-9.30pm), Tue 3 Dec, Thu 12 Dec.
    • Orchestra only rehearsal - tbc, likely either Sat 23 or Sat 30 Nov
    • Full rehearsals (orchestra and choir) - Mon 16 and Fri 20 Dec
    • I'm afraid that inevitably there will be some clashes with some other church activities such as growth groups and Engage. As usual I've tried to avoid these as much as possible! Where there are clashes, I would generally encourage you to attend your growth group/Engage etc. as normal and try to make the other rehearsals. Feel free to chat to me about it!
  • Christmas Day (orchestra and choir) - 10.30am service, 9.45am rehearsal

Youth Orchestra & Children's Choir

We also plan to have Youth Orchestra and Children's Choir on 1 December and Christmas Eve. Again  for all those who would like to be involved. New players and singers very welcome!

Music

Music at St John's is a mixture of traditional and contemporary music, seeking to help all of us praise God and encourage one another. Music is generally led by singers with a band (generally made up of orchestral instruments, rhythm section and organ) - with musicians drawn from the church family. New musicians are always welcome - please get in touch using the form below.
